Hanahan

Hanahan’s history begins well before it became an incorporated city in 1973. Hanahan began as a public service district. The first planned neighborhood, Highland Park, was developed by George R. Fishburne starting in 1941. Today, Hanahan circumnavigates the Goose Creek Reservoir and is made up of 3 distinct areas. The original area known as Hanahan Proper was mostly developed from the 1940’s to the late 1970’s. The Otranto area includes Eagle Landing and was mainly developed from the early 1980’s to the early 2000’s. New Hanahan includes the youngest neighborhoods of Hanahan including Tanner Plantation, Bowen, and several small neighborhoods along Foster Creek with new neighborhoods in development.

Hanahan is located within Berkeley County and is bordered by North Charleston and Goose Creek. Considered more of a bedroom community with a population of just under 30,000, many residents affectionately dub Hanahan as “Mayberry in the middle of everywhere”. However, commercial opportunities have continued to expand throughout the city, especially within the New Hanahan area.

Hanahan is within proximity to many of Charleston’s largest employers, including NIWC Atlanta, Boeing, Blackbaud, and Joint Base Charleston. Recreational and entertainment attractions are 10-20 minutes’ drive to nearby Downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Daniel Island, North Charleston, Charleston, and Summerville. The beautiful beaches of Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms are approximately 40 minutes’ drive from Hanahan. The nearest hospital and medical offices are located only 10-15 minutes away.

The variety of homes that make up the Hanahan area offer something for everyone. From 1940’s bungalows to the homes preparing to be constructed overlooking the Goose Creek Reservoir, from the condos and townhomes and from slab, crawl space and elevated foundations, to the somewhat spacious lots of yesteryear to the low maintenance lots of today, there is truly a place for anyone regardless of preference. Allow me to help you find the perfect home for you.
